Scholarships for Hispanics

There’s is an array of high school programs that provide a first step in the process. The Hispanic youth institute, funded by the Hispanic college fund, holds the Hispanic youth symposium, where high school students can stay at a college campus and gain valuable experience and motivation, in the form of lectures and talks with college professors. At the end of the symposium, students can be enrolled on a year round program to keep them focused and interested in college opportunities.
The aim behind the scholarship funding is to get people into college to become graduates, whom wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to do so or who perhaps couldn’t afford it and may otherwise have to go into work immediately after high school. It has proved to be a great success. Around two million dollars is given to Hispanic scholars every year and seventy percent of the recipients are the first members of their family to attend college. The average household income for the students’ family is Twenty One thousand five hundred dollars.
There are several Out-reach programs that have been initiated with the exacted purpose of reaching these people who otherwise may not be interested or able to attend college. Since 2002, there have been Town hall meetings, steps for success Saturdays and a parental engagement program, all funded by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. These steps have been created to spread awareness of all the opportunities for financial benefit and motivation for academic inspiration. They operate all across the country.
The HSF also provides University alliance programs, with the intent of giving Hispanics at college greater chances of finding a place at a university they desire. As well as the provision of scholarships, there are efforts to help Hispanics graduate from College within the community and also help them with the admissions process.
